unfinished knitting projects on coffee table

A monthly update of all the projects piling up on and under my coffee table. You can read last month's update here and all previous months here.

We're just going to ignore that I missed last month's update. After a 3 new shop samples to show off our new Pom Pom Tree yarn my knitting time was significantly reduced by a busy summer season and house renovations!

So the coffee table is looking very tidy as I rotate between a few projects. One is a very old WiP and two are brand new. I'm also still 'knitting' the sleeves on a baby cardigan.

First up is the very old WiP - Caine. It first appeared on the coffee table in November 2022! And has been on and off it ever since.

Caine is designed by Monie Ebner (available to buy on Ravelry). It's a sleeveless slipover. Knitted from the top down.

I'm using Rowan Felted Tweed in shade 216 French Mustard.

I've been knitting the body for a while now.

I always race through the top half of a top-down jumper but really sloooooowwww down on the body.

It's not a difficult pattern. The pattern is a mistake rib. On one round you do a K1,P1 rib and on the following round you knit all the stitches. It makes a lovely subtle texture.

However, I did my motivation no favours thinking I only had to knit 8" of the body. Coming up on 6" I felt the end was in sight but unfortunately I need to do 10".

It's a bit silly really. Once the body is done there's only minimal finishing required on the armholes and neckline. The end is in sight. Surely I'll get it done before it's 2nd anniversary.

The first new project uses our new Pom Pom yarn, My Mama Knits Choufunga 4ply inspired by our shop Pom Pom Tree. I love the mini skein colours so much I decided to make a Take It All shawl by Lisa Hannes.

Take It All by Lisa Hannes (available to buy on Ravelry)

Originally published as a Mystery Knit Along in 4 separate clues the pattern is now available as a single pdf.

It's a large shawl that combines colours in blocks and stripes and combines garter stitch with some simple lace.

It's great for mini skeins and leftovers.

The pattern specifies one main colour and 8 contrast colours. Our Pom Pom Party mini skein pack has 6 skeins so I'll repeat some colours. There's plenty of meterage.

For my main colour I'm using another My Mama Knits Choufunga 4ply - Smitten Kitten.

The shawl is a lot of fun to knit. I love knitting garter stitch and blocks of colour and stitch patterns AND it's my favourite shawl shape to knit - asymmetrical. I think the blocks of colour and stitch patterns will look great when worn wrapped, with the sections clashing against each other.

Along with stripes there's simple lace blocks:

  • vertical lace trellis
  • eyelet fabric
  • lace trellis, right bias
  • lace trellis, left bias
  • vertical lace

They're not tricky to work. It's all simple yarn overs combined with knit 2 together or slip slip knit together. The pattern has written instructions as well as a chart for the lace sections.

The second new project is a toddler's Christmas jumper.

My friend made this last year for her grandson and it is very cute.

The pattern is Luna Berry by Rachel Brockman. It's available to buy on Ravelry. I'm using King Cole Wool Aran in 3 classic festive shades - Cream, Cranberry and the new Sage.

Wool Aran is 100% wool. It softens on washing (and it is machine washable) and works so well in colourwork. The stitches relax and snuggle up against each other making a smooth fabric, giving a neat finish.

I used it in our Fern & Feather jumper.

And Sue just knitted Glenmore Mini in it too.

Worked from the top down Lunaberry has a bold snowflake motif with a small holly motif at the neck and cuffs.

It's knitting up quickly - although I'm trying not to be too fast in case the stranded colourwork gets to tight. A perennial problem when you get a speed up flying through a colourwork chart.

The pattern has sizes from 6 months to 12 years. I'm knitting age 2, so hopefully I won't get stuck on the body a la Caine or on the sleeves like Sorgenfri.👇

baby cardigan

Sorgenfri designed by Guri Pedersen,  available to buy on Ravelry.

It's a DK weight pattern and I'm using King Cole Comfort DK in shade 1729 Glacier.

I've completely stalled on this one. One weekend of knitting will see it finished... it's only a 3-6mths size for goodness sake.😆
