hand knit ice blue alpaca sweater with lace yoke and cuffs
Wildwoods Sweater by Kristen Finlay (available to buy on Ravelry)

Wildwoods is a simple, light, oversized sweater with a lace yoke. We knitted ours in Rowan Alpaca Classic. This versatile DK is a blend of alpaca and cotton and it's very light with a fluffy halo.

We knitted size 45.6" and it's been photographed on a 34" chest.

Wildwoods is knitted seamlessly from the top down. You do need to pick up stitches but there is no sewing up.

Don't be put off by the lace yoke as it's not too tricky (although the Alpaca Classic is quite sticky, so can be difficult to rip back). The lace pattern is charted and written out and is a worked over a short 6 stitch repeat.

Also, the sweater shape is simple, so no complicated pattern to follow.

It's boxy - so no shaping to worry about. After you've knitted the top back and top front, you are just working round and round for the body.

It has a dropped shoulder/sleeve, so you don't have to incorporate any armhole shaping into the yoke.

There is no shaping on the sleeves either, so no counting following alternate rows.

(Although I didn't follow the cuff decreases exactly as my cuff was coming out way too small for a hand to get through.)

You can see all the pattern details and buy it on Raverly and on the designer's website. There are lots of sizes available, from  40 - 68” chest (the designer recommends a positive ease of 5 - 12")

You can see our range of Rowan Alpaca Classic DK here.

Depending on your needle size, the yarn can be used for lots of different types of projects.

We used Rowan Alpaca Classic with a 6mm needle to knit our Lovenote. And we used it with a 4.5mm needle for our Alpaca Scarf.

For Wildwoods the pattern calls for 5mm and it makes such a light fabric that's not totally see through!
