A monthly update of all the projects piling up on and under my coffee table. You can read all previous months here.
Last month I had a very modest pile of unfinished projects and so far this month I've stuck to working only on three projects.
Although one of those projects involves multiple prototypes.😆
Projects from January:
I have managed to complete half a sleeve on my Cloud Blouse. Pattern available to buy on Ravelry here.
The pattern is written for two strands of a mohair silk laceweight. I'm using one strand of Rico Meri Mohair in shade Deep Sea.
It's knitted seamlessly - in the round and back and forth, from the top down. The pattern is very well written (I recommend reading it all the way through before starting) and the yarn is glorious. I particular like how the stripes blend whether you're knitting the body or the narrower sleeves.
This is such a lovely sweater. So light and airy. And I'm determined to get it finished and in the shop.
I've made no progress on my Pop baby cardigan. I think I can only be on one sleeve island at a time.😆
I'm using Socks Yeah DK in Aeacus.
Pop is super popular in the shop. We have several samples. This new one is following the pattern as written.
It has a garter stitch (knit every row) yoke and a stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row) body and sleeves.
As it's knitted from the top down you have no sewing up, although you do have the choice to knit the sleeve flat and then sew up.
I did finish my Souvenir Shawl (pattern available to buy on Ravelry).
Very happy how this turned out and a relatively quick knit!
New additions to the coffee table include a 3rd test of a new shop pattern. Well, it's more of an adaption of a shop pattern.
Our
Side-to-Side Shawl is one of our most popular free patterns. It starts with a few stitches and you increase up to a mid point then you decrease back down to a few stitches.
For the new version I'm using just 50g of a DK and I'm changing the rate of the increase/decrease.
The original pattern uses a 4 row pattern to increase up to a mid point then decrease back down. By increasing the rate to 8 rows you get a longer skinny shawl or scarf.
So, combining my two obsessions at the moment - planning our 'summer' yarn and projects and mini scarves - I'm making a skinny side to side in our DK summer yarns.
WYS Elements DK in Shade 1239 - Ultra Marine
My latest version uses Meri Mohair (not that summery and a much longer 50g ball, so not that mini).
I've not got very far with this version but I feel confident enough to write up the pattern now so it should be available very soon. Make sure you're
signed up to our newsletter to get the download.
The reason that project has stalled is because I've dusted off a hibernating WiP - Salty Air.
I haven't shared Salty Air in these updates before. From my photos I can see I started it sometime in June last year. I probably worked on it religiously then set aside for something else.
lace looks a bit rubbish on the needles!
After checking it over and making sure my pattern notes matched what was on the needles I realised I only had about 25 rows to do before I split the body and sleeves. Although, these rows are the longest ones and that's probably why I put it aside.
After a few evenings of work I am really enjoying it again. The lace is straightforward and my stitch markers are keeping me right. It is slow going, 250 stitches in 4ply, but it's quite relaxing.
Solstice is a blend of wool, lyocell and cashmere so I'm hoping for a light and drapey tee. I've seen this yarn worked as a jumper and it really feels luxurious so I'm pretty confident this will be a stunning garment. Fingers crossed!
In the coming month I aim to have my Cloud Blouse finished and have the mini Side-to Side Scarf written up.
I'm also thinking of doing another fair isle hat and a large stripey shawl. And I really should do something using our new
Rico Lazy Hazy Cotton. 🤔
