East Neuk Hat & Cowl

£3.60

Designed by Clare Hutchinson the East Neuk Hat and Cowl knitting pattern features familiar East Neuk landmarks - a picturesque harbour with pantile houses, lighthouses and fishing boats. And there’s a windmill too!

The hat and cowl are both knitted in the round using stranded colourwork. It does include long floats which you need to catch at the back of your work.

You can make the hat longer by adding rows to the ribbing and/or rows after the pattern and before the crown decreases.

This pattern is designed using Kinross 4ply.

You need two colours - one 50g hank of each. This will knit either the hat or the cowl.

For the hat you’ll use less than 50g in total.

For the cowl you will use about 75g of yarn in total.

Hat size - to fit head approx. 23"/58cm circumference

Cowl size - approx 40"/100cm diameter and 8"/20cm wide

You will also need:

3mm and 3.25mm needles. You can use 40cm long circular needles for the rib and body of the hat. To complete the crown decreases you also need either 3mm Double Pointed Needles or a long (more than 80cm) 3mm circular needle for magic loop. You can of course do the whole hat in magic loop.

(If you fancy trying magic loop Very Pink Knits has a good video tutorial here showing you how to cast on and this one shows you how to work your rounds).
