Sleeveless Top

Our latest summer top is knitted in Stylecraft Organic Cotton DK. Using Stylecraft pattern 9840. 

We knitted the first size, 32-34" with a finished measurement of 38" chest. It's photographed on a 34" mannequin.

A simple boxy shape - the front and back are worked almost identically - this top has a moss stitch zig zag up one side.

Moss stitch means you knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch on the right side and purl the knit stitch and knit the purl stitch on the wrong side. It's like doing a rib wrong. It's only worked up one side of the back and front so it's not all over.

There isn't any shaping so you don't need to 'maintain pattern, whilst decreasing'.

You do need to pick up stitches at the armholes for a neat edging.

It is knitted flat and sewn up. 

We have 18 shades of Stylecraft Organic Cotton in stock and a whole range of patterns for ladies garments.

The cotton is soft and machine washable making it perfect for baby items too. As a standard DK thickness you could use it in any DK pattern.

It's a great price too!

This sleeveless top is part of my master plan to get more summery garments into the shop, whilst there's still time to enjoy them this summer. 

So far we've added:-

Summer Light - a cropped mohair silk tee shirt, perfect for wearing over strappy tops and dresses. Knitted in hand dyed Float Your Goat you get a lovely colour effect on a simple stocking stitch fabric. 

Melody - a sleeveless lace top in an innovative blend of wool and Lyocell. Elements DK has a lovely silk like sheen and there's lots of colours with new shades just added. And because of the different fibres the yarn has a very slight tonal effect.

And from a two summers ago, Wildwoods - a lacey sweater in a lightweight blend of alpaca and cotton. Rowan Alpaca Classic is a blown yarn. It has a cotton core with alpaca fibres. Like Elements DK it has a slight tonal effect as the fibres hold the colour differently. It's also very light.

I'm attempting one more summery top, Uptown Tee in Vivacious 4ply. Which will hopefully be finished by this summer.

Although it will mess up my lovely grid of summer knits... I'll maybe need to knit a sixth.😆
